Subaru Forester Brake Proportioning Valve

The Brake Proportioning Valve of the Subaru Forester ensures any stop is safe, as it gives more hydraulic pressure to the discs at the front while restricting pressure at the rear drums so that the wheels don't lock up. The device is situated next to the master cylinder. If the pressure of the pedal increases sharply, the spring gets compressed and the piston slides forward and temporarily prevents the fluid from passing to the rear circuit. This action serves to balance the grip. Initially, a fixed Brake Proportioning Valve was fitted on the early models. Thereafter, the sporty trims had an adjustable Brake Proportioning Valve that had a knob. Furthermore, some load-sensing editions came with a lever Brake Proportioning Valve. The Subaru SUVs generally keep their problems hidden under the hood, only to pop up when a corroded Brake Proportioning Valve sticks, negating the pressure split and causing a possibly abrupt rear lock up. Individuals who own or operate the Forester value the hydraulic proportioning, which allows the Forester to share the vacuum boost while the valve automatically adjusts the pressure. Because it functions with ABS sensors for stable emergency stops on pavement or gravel, every modern Subaru does this.

Subaru Forester Brake Proportioning Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q:
How to Replace the Brake Proportioning Valve on a Subaru Forester?
    Posted by Carlos O.
    A:
Loosen the four tube nuts for the brake lines with a flare nut wrench, pull all parts off with a flare-nut wrench when you change the Brake Proportioning Valve, and take out the mount pin from the strut. Loosen the bolt holding the Brake Proportioning Valve in place. Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure to pump out all brake fluid and road test brakes to make sure they work before putting your car back into regular driving.
