The Subaru Outback Horn is the SUV's audible safety alert that instantly enables the driver to warn pedestrians and other motorists of impending danger. The earlier cars had a single electromechanical Horn creating a loud and deep honk. However, the recent models are getting a pair of electric Horns producing a sharper beep. This is expected as it makes it easier for the Horn to be heard in traffic. The two designs operate via a diaphragm and electromagnet. First, the circuit is closed when the button on the steering wheel is pressed. It then draws power from the battery and vibrates the diaphragm. Consequently, sound waves are formed that can help penetrate through the traffic noise. Subaru set the decibel level to meet regulations while duly assuring that each Outback remains loud enough without becoming obnoxious. The system is usually engaged in short bursts for a specific purpose as long bursts wear the component and irritate others. A Horn may fail when it sounds no more than a weak sputter or worse, nothing at all, when the pad is pressed. In either of these cases, the relay and fuse and the Horn are implicated and may require replacing. Misbehavior like remaining silent or honking intermittently should alert you to check the wiring and fuse box of the Subaru Outback's Horn.

- Q:What is the location of the horns on Subaru Outback?Posted by Guy E.A:There was a time when horns were positioned right in front of the radiator and some of them also went with air conditioning condensers. Mounting brackets on which these little things are fixed are usually found on vertical support in the front of radiators as well as conditioners. Reminder: The high tone horn is mounted at the bottom of the radiator support while the low tone horn is mounted under the passenger's side headlamp housing. By removing bumper cover for 2006 and later models, it will allow an individual to replace any one horn. For either horn, release its tab thereby disconnecting electrical connector, then remove bracket bolt. It follows that disengage its mooring from this mounting bracket before pulling them out. Reattach your new item to original place by doing exactly opposite steps taken during removal.Answered by Subaru Parts Specialist Gary / Mar 31, 2026
