On sedan models, move the carpet in the trunk to access the shock upper mounting nuts, and on wagon models, remove the luggage compartment floor mat to access the shock upper mounting nuts. Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, block the front wheels, raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels, place a floor jack under the rear knuckle and raise it until it just contacts the knuckle, disconnect the rear stabilizer link from the lower arm, remove the shock-to-rear lateral link fasteners, remove the lower arm-to-knuckle through-bolt and nut, then separate the arm from the strut. Have an assistant support the shock, then remove the shock upper mounting nuts. Installation is the reverse of removal. Use the jack to raise or lower the knuckle to align the hole in the shock with the hole in the knuckle. Tighten all fasteners, install the wheels and lug nuts, then lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel lug nuts. The manufacturer recommends using new self-locking mounting nuts when installing the shock assembly.
