Subaru 34141AA042 Tie Rod End

Loosen the wheel lug nuts and block the rear wheels before raising the front of the vehicle and supporting it securely, then remove the front wheel. Loosen the jam nut enough to mark the position of the tie-rod end in relation to the threads, then remove the cotter pin and loosen the nut on the tie-rod end stud without removing it. Use a puller to disconnect the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle, removing the nut to separate the tie-rod end. Unscrew the tie-rod end from the tie-rod, and if reinstalling the old tie-rod end, inspect the boot for damage; if necessary, replace it by removing the boot ring, sliding off the old boot, cleaning the balljoint, lubricating it, and installing a new boot with the boot ring. Thread the tie-rod end onto the marked position and insert the tie-rod end stud into the steering knuckle, tightening the jam nut securely. Install the nut on the stud and tighten it to the specified torque, adding an additional 60 degrees for 2005 and later models until the cotter pin hole aligns with the slot in the nut, then install a new cotter pin. Finally, install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the wheel lug nuts to the specified torque, followed by checking and adjusting the alignment if necessary.

Loosen the front wheel lug nuts and block the rear wheels. Lift the front of the vehicle. Remove the front wheel, mark the position of the tie-rod end, and take out the cotter pin and nut. Disconnect the tie-rod end with a puller and untighten it. Check the tie-rod end boot for damage. Lubricate the new boot and install it. Thread the tie-rod end, then fasten the jam nut and install it on the stud. Install a new cotter pin and then install the wheel. Put down the vehicle and secure the lug nuts. Check the alignment.
