After opening thousands of times, the bushings wear and cause the door to drop. The owner will then have to pick it up or slam it. However, a new Door Hinge pin kit restores factory geometry, which spares the latch excess shock. In early designs, the stop detent was integrated into the Door Hinge, which limited the swing and held the door partially open. Later designs applied a lighter Door Hinge with an independent check strap to do these things. This reduced stress on the hinge and made it easier to service. The advanced design of modern Subaru doors is shown to resist fatigue longer and cost less to repair. Routine lubrication of the hinge pin will keep any Subaru Forester's closure crisp and prevent corrosion of the paint around the seam.

- Q:How often should the Door Hinge, Door Latch Assembly, Door Lock, Hood Hinge, Hood Latch, and Trunk Lid Latch be lubricated on Subaru Forester?Posted by Marcelo R.A:On average after 3000 miles or three months, the doors, the Hoods and the trunk should be lubricated with a few drops of light oil or lock lubricant on the hinges and latches assemblies. Also, the door latch strikers were recommended to be greased in order to reduce the amount of wear and to ensure free movement across the access surfaces.
