For 2000 through 2004 Baja, Legacy, and Outback models, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. If removing the right headlight housing, take out the air intake duct. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the headlight bulbs and from the parking, turn signal, and side marker light bulbs. After that, remove the three headlight housing mounting bolts, pull out the housing, and disconnect any other electrical connectors. Installation is the reverse of removal, and adjust the headlight afterward. For 2005 and later models, follow the same initial steps of disconnecting the battery cable and removing the air intake duct. Next, remove the front grille and bumper cover, then disconnect the electrical connectors from the headlight bulbs and other lights. Remove the five headlight housing mounting bolts and a single clip, pull out the housing, and disconnect all electrical connectors. Installation is again the reverse of removal. For 2000 through 2005 Forester models, begin by disconnecting the battery cable and removing the air intake duct, followed by the front grille and headlight side cover. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the headlight bulb and other lights, then remove the three headlight housing mounting bolts, pull out the housing, and disconnect all electrical connectors. Installation is the reverse of removal. For 2006 and later Forester models, disconnect the battery cable, remove the air intake duct, and take off the front bumper cover. Then, remove the four headlight housing mounting bolts, pull out the housing, and disconnect all electrical connectors. Installation is the reverse of removal.
