The Subaru Forester Throttle Body controls the volume of air entering the engine according to the driver's accelerator angle. The Throttle Body is mounted between the air cleaner and the intake manifold. Inside the Throttle Body is the butterfly valve that opens when the pedal is pressed. This allows more air to flow, and sensors tell the PCM to add fuel as well, using the injectors. The Throttle Body also has a passage that delivers air to the idle air control valve to control the idle speed and a Throttle Position Sensor mounted on the shaft that reports the angle of the valve so fuel can be calculated accurately. The earlier mechanical linkage utilized a cable. However, many Subaru Forester models use electronic throttle control. Here, an electric motor on the Throttle Body opens or closes the plate based on data from the pedal position. This minimizes the chance of it being stuck. Furthermore, it integrates with stability control functions. Cleaning or replacing components in the Throttle Body of the Subaru Forester can help restore its performance. However, repeated occurrences of such cases may be caused by carbon buildup or shaft wear on the unit.

- Q:How to Remove and Replace a Throttle Body on Subaru Forester?Posted by Alexey R.A:Disconnect the negative battery terminal and remove the air filter housing. Detach the accelerator and cruise control cables, air bypass hose, and electrical connectors from the throttle body. Mark and remove the coolant hoses and throttle body mounting bolts. Remove the throttle body and discard the gasket. Clean the gasket surfaces and throttle body bore.
