Subaru Impreza Air Injection Pump

The Subaru Air Injection Pump operates within Subaru Imprezas to implement the secondary Subaru Air Injection Pump system which delivers fresh air to exhaust system components. Fresh air introduction through this process facilitates fuel oxidation which accomplishes emission reduction of hydrocarbons (HC) alongside carbon monoxide (CO). The Subaru system directs the exhaust air flow with an electric Impreza Air Injection Pump or belt mechanism based on engine temperature and conditions to pressurize its exhaust ports and catalytic converter at separate times. Engine operation and warm-up phases depend on the air control valve and when deceleration occurs the vacuum switch triggers the diverter valve to direct air to the atmosphere. All designs of the Subaru system vary in component layout although their unified objective remains the optimization of emissions control and fuel efficiency. Impreza Air Injection Pump system diagnostics must run regularly to confirm proper system operation because operational issues produce higher emissions together with decreased fuel economy. The Impreza Air Injection Pump plays a crucial role in maintaining the efficiency of the Subaru Impreza, ensuring that emissions are kept in check while enhancing overall performance. Regular checks on the Impreza system are essential for optimal functioning and compliance with environmental standards.

Subaru Impreza Air Injection Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Replace the Secondary Air Injection System Components and Air Injection Pump on Subaru Impreza?
    A:
To replace the secondary air injection pump on 2006 and later turbo-charged models, disconnect the negative battery terminal, detach the wiring harness from the pump, remove the pump's mounting bolts, disconnect the electrical connector, lift and disconnect the air hose, then remove the pump. Reinstall in reverse order. For the secondary air combination valves, disconnect the negative battery terminal, remove the intercooler, disconnect the electrical connector, and remove the air duct. Unbolt the outlet pipe, discard the old gasket, remove the left and then the right valve. Reinstall with a new gasket in reverse order.
