The secondary air injection system, used on 2006 and later turbo-charged models, is a PCM-controlled system that pumps extra air into the exhaust system during open-loop operation (cold starts). It consists of a PCM-controlled electric air pump and two secondary air combination valves, one for each exhaust manifold. To replace the secondary air injection pump, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, detach the wiring harness clip from the top of the pump, remove the pump mounting bolts, disconnect the pump's electrical connector, lift the pump up and disconnect the air hose, then remove the pump. Installation is the reverse of removal. To replace the secondary air injection combination valves, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, remove the intercooler, disconnect the electrical connector from the left secondary air combination valve, disconnect and remove the air duct, unbolt the outlet pipe from the secondary air combination valve, remove and discard the old gasket between the valve and the outlet pipe, unbolt and remove the left secondary air combination valve. For the right valve, remove the left secondary air combination valve, remove the intake manifold, disconnect the electrical connector from the right secondary air combination valve, unbolt the outlet pipe from the right secondary air combination valve outlet pipe, remove and discard the old gasket between the valve and the outlet pipe, unbolt and remove the right secondary air combination valve. Installation is the reverse of removal. Use a new gasket when reconnecting the outlet pipe to the secondary air combination valve.
