Subaru Impreza Steering Knuckle

The Subaru Impreza Steering Knuckle is where the suspension arms, tie rod ends, and the wheel hub or spindle connect. This allows each of the front wheels to rise over bumps and steer in reaction to the steering wheel. The Steering Knuckle is designed with machined bores that secure the joints of the upper and lower control arm or strut and lower arm combination and thereby positively locates the wheel assembly while permitting smooth pivoting about the steering axis. The spindle extends out from the wheel hub part, a cast metal part of the Steering Knuckle. The Steering Knuckle keeps the handling and ride quality consistent. It does this by securing the wheel in a stable plane and directing its motion. Although they last long, collision impact or distorted joint tapers can necessitate replacement.     How to Remove and Install the Rear Steering Knuckle on My Subaru Impreza?

    Remove the rear wheel, brake assembly, and disconnect the Trailing Arm and suspension links from the rear steering knuckle. Remove the steering knuckle from the CV joint and replace any damaged CV joint boots. On 2008 and later models, detach the stabilizer bar link and remove the hub assembly. Support the steering knuckle with a jack, disconnect the trailing arm and suspension links, and remove the steering knuckle. Inspect the bushing and CV joint boots for wear. Reinstall in reverse order, tightening all fasteners and readjusting the parking brake cable. If equipped with drum brakes, bleed the brake system.
