All models are fitted with an Airbag which is scientifically termed as the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), to cushion the impact and thus minimize severe injury to the driver and the front seat passenger especially in a head-on/frontal impact. This ensemble is composed of an air bag module set at the middle of the steering wheel as well as, on some models, an additional air bag on the instrument panel located above the glove box. Other models include side-impact air bags, side-tube air bags, and front seat belt electric pre-tensioners that minimize slackness of front seat belts in serious impacts. The airbag inflator module situated in the steering wheel comprises of a housing that contain the airbag as well as the inflator unit that has the capacity of inflating the bag within an instance of getting an electrical signal. Passenger side has a bigger air bag, positioned over the glove compartment, and has the texts trim cover similar to the instrument panel ones. Trended side impact airbags are located in the outer line of the front seat back while side curtain airbags are located along the headliner line which is above the door opening. It provides power to the airbag system during an accident together with the battery and monitors the system each time the vehicle is turned on , provided the airbag warning light is working fine. The following precautions must be observed when operating in proximity to the SRS components; engaging the LOCK position in the ignition, removing the battery's negative terminal, and waiting for the orange lamp to go off. Bioaerosol exposure can thus occur while dealing with an airbag module and it is important to ensure that the opening of the airbag should not be towards the body or when placing the airbag on any surface, the opening should not face down. Used and defective airbag modules should be taken to a dealer for proper rendering of the airbag and proper disposal. Measurements of the resistance of SRS components should never be made and people are warned against performing any operations concerning yellow connectors that are related to the air bag system. Also, one has to amend the air bag system when installing anything around the front grille or the bumper, and electrical welding must never be conducted without removing the battery cables.
