How to Replace an Automatic Transmission Filter on a Subaru Legacy?

Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands, drain the transaxle fluid, install the drain plug, and tighten it to the torque. Place a drain pan below the automatic transaxle filter canister, using an oil filter wrench, remove the automatic transaxle canister filter, before installing the new filter, lubricate the sealing 0-ring with clean automatic transaxle fluid. Wipe clean the mating surface on the transaxle, installation is the reverse of removal, tighten the canister filter securely by hand, and add automatic transaxle fluid.
