Remove the wheel cover and unstake, then loosen, the axle shaft nut. Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands, remove the wheel, disconnect the control arm from the steering knuckle, remove the axle shaft nut, then pull the axle shaft assembly out of the steering knuckle. On models that do not use a spring pin, pry the inner CV joint out of the
Differential. If you're planning to replace a CV joint boot or overhaul an inner CV joint, proceed to the next section. Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure you use a new spring pin to lock the inner CV joint to the differential stub shaft. Tighten the axle shaft nut as securely as you can with the vehicle raised, then install the wheel and lug nuts and lower the vehicle to the ground. Check the transaxle lubricant level or differential lubricant level, adding as necessary.
