Most electric rear view mirrors utilize two motors for adjustments, one for vertical movement and another for horizontal movement. The control switch features a selector that directs voltage to either the left or right side mirror. With the ignition ON but the engine OFF, roll down the windows and operate the mirror control switch through all functions for both mirrors, listening for the sound of the electric motors. If the motors are audible but the mirror glass remains stationary, a problem with the drive mechanism is likely. If there is no sound from the mirrors, checking the
Fuse is necessary. If the fuse is intact, remove the mirror control switch without disconnecting the wires, turn the ignition ON, and check for voltage at the switch; one terminal should have voltage. In the absence of voltage, inspect the circuit for any opens or shorts. If voltage is present, disconnect the switch and test for continuity in all operating positions; replace the switch if continuity is lacking. After reconnecting the switch, locate the wire going to ground and connect a jumper wire between this wire and ground; if the mirror operates normally, repair the faulty ground connection. If the mirror remains non-functional, remove it and check for voltage at the mirror wires with the ignition ON and the selector switch set appropriately, ensuring voltage is present at one of the switch-to-mirror wires in each position except the neutral "off" position. If voltage is absent in any position, inspect the circuit for issues. If voltage is confirmed, test the mirror off the vehicle with jumper wires and replace it if it fails this test.
