For this procedure, a spring compressor is needed, and these can be hired daily from most auto parts stores or equipment yards. If the struts or coil springs show signs of wear, for example, leaking fluid or cracks take all into consideration, before any job commences, the strut/shock absorber assembly cannot be repaired, and will have to be replaced under the said circumstances. Rather than purchasing strut assemblies with springs, it can be ordered on exchange basis, or wanted, thus, it is recommended to compare the cost and availability of the stated parts before disassembling the vehicle further. First, disengage the strut and spring assembly and then it is to be installed on a wooden Shaped Vise Cover that prevents the denting of the steel but must be tightened not very thoroughly. Mount the spring compressor in a proper manner as described in the direction of the spring compressor and compress the spring up to a stage which there is no pressure left on the upper spring seat , this can be indicated by a rocking movement of the spring. Further, undo the nut on the damper shaft using a socket wrench to eventually pull off the upper Strut mount inclusive of the spacer meanwhile checking of the bearing to see that it rotates freely then replace the strut mount in case it is worn out. The upper spring seat rubber seat as well as dust cover have to be dismantled and one has to inspect the surfaces to establish whether they are worn out or not. In lifting the compressed spring back from the assembly, ensure that the two ends do not point toward you and after putting it, ensure that it is safe. Slide off the rubber bumper from the damper shaft and has to check for the worn out rubber bumper and replace it if so. To assembled back again it is suggested to use new self-locking nut. Twist the damper rod repeatedly until it is possible to compress and fully retract it, this is in a bid to clear any air trapped in the component, then to set it free, pull it to its full size and fit the rubber bumper. The first step is to locate the coil spring on the lower insulator and engaging the end of the spring with the recessed portion next is installing the dust cover, rubber seat, and the upper spring seat. Last of it, fit the spacer and upper strut mount and fasten it with a new self locking nut tightened to the prescribed torque and finally reassemble the strut/coil spring.
