Subaru Legacy Ignition Coil

The Ignition Coil for the Legacy by Subaru takes the battery supply of a vehicle (typically 12 volts) and transforms it into 15,000 to 40,000 volts in order to fire the spark plugs and ignite the air fuel mix. Enclosed in a polymer container, the Subaru unit has copper primary and secondary windings around an iron core. Current in the primary makes a magnetic field which collapses when the triggering device opens, producing high voltage sent to the spark plugs. An Ignition Coil may serve all cylinders via a distributor. Legacy may also have a coil pack with paired cylinders in a waste-spark arrangement like in a distributorless ignition system. It may also have a coil-on-plug unit fitted directly on each plug or a coil-near-plug with short wires. The winding structure is consistent across each model of Ignition Coil. No matter how it is configured, each Ignition Coil connects the low-voltage battery circuit to the high-voltage secondary circuit that ignites the combustion chambers of the Subaru Legacy. The Ignition Coil of a Subaru Legacy can be damaged by heat, vibration, or excessive plug gap, causing misfires, rough running, and a warning lamp on the dashboard.
