How to remove the power steering pump from Subaru Legacy?

Take out the parts that cover the drivebelt pulley and engine. On turbocharged vehicles, you must remove the air intake tube. Remove the drivebelt. Unplug the electrical wire with the pump switch. Detach the power steering fluid line clamps. Take the two hose connections off from around the power steering pump. Detach the bolts holding the pump bracket, lift and move pump-and-bracket together away from the engine. Carefully mount the pump and bracket in a vice. After loosening the front two bolts, remove them through the pulley transmission device. Take out the individual bolt from the set holding the pump up by the rear and use a pry tool to pull the pump free from its base on the bracket. Installation is the reverse of removal. Replace the power steering fluid and make sure the system doesn't show any liquid leaking. Bleed the power steering system.

Subaru Legacy Power Steering Pump

Subaru Legacy Power Steering Pump offers hydraulic power which makes steering easier by transforming engine rotation into pressurized fluid that supports the steering gear of the Legacy. The crankshaft uses a V-belt or serpentine belt to drive the Power Steering Pump on a Subaru engine, which pulls fluid out of a reservoir which can be built into the engine or positioned off the engine and attached with a hose. A high-pressure line takes the fluid to the control valve and a low-pressure return hose takes the fluid back to the Power Steering Pump. At rest, the steering wheel is centered, the pressure is balanced on both sides of the hydraulic piston; when the steering wheel is turned, the valve will direct the pressure to one side of the piston thus making the piston move and direct the wheels. Frequent issues are leaks, whining or squealing sounds and less assist at parking speeds, which may be caused by low fluid levels, belt issues or the deterioration of Power Steering Pump performance.
