If the struts or springs show wear (leaking, loss of damping, chipped or sagging springs), secure the strut assembly in a vise. Use a spring compressor to relieve pressure from the upper spring seat. Remove the damper shaft nut, upper strut mount, and spacer. Inspect the bearing, remove the upper spring seat, rubber seat, and dust cover. Lift the compressed spring, remove the rubber bumper, and purge air from the strut by compressing the damper rod. Reinstall the bumper, place the spring onto the insulator, and reinstall the dust cover, rubber seat, upper spring seat, spacer, and strut mount. Install a new nut and tighten.
