Subaru 30502AA051 Clutch Release Bearing

Remove the release bearing retaining clips from the bearing and input shaft, and pry off the release lever and rubber boot from the transaxle. Rotate the outer bearing while applying pressure. Replace any deformed or weak retaining clips or springs. Apply grease to the input shaft bearing retainer sleeve, input shaft splines, and release lever contact surfaces. Ensure the release lever is correctly positioned on the ball stud, then push until the stud pops into place. Install the release bearing and secure with retaining clips.

To remove the clutch, the transaxle must be detached and the engine supported. Use a clutch alignment tool to support the clutch disc during removal. Inspect the flywheel and pressure plate for indexing marks and loosen the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts. During installation, clean the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces, position the clutch disc and pressure plate against the flywheel, and secure with an alignment tool. Tighten the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts in a crisscross pattern, lubricate, and install the release bearing. Finally, reinstall the transaxle and all components.

To access the clutch, remove the transaxle, leaving the engine in the vehicle. Check the flywheel and pressure plate for marks, and loosen the bolts. Inspect the clutch disc lining, flywheel, machined surfaces, diaphragm spring fingers, and the pilot bearing for wear and damage. Clean the flywheel and pressure plate with brake cleaner, position the clutch disc and pressure plate against the flywheel, center the disc, and tighten the bolts. Lubricate the release bearing, install it, and reinstall the transaxle and other components.

Remove the transaxle and release bearing from the input shaft. Pry the release lever from the ball stud and remove the lever and rubber sealing boot (5-speed models). Remove the plug and release lever shaft (6-speed models). Rotate the outer portion of the bearing while applying pressure. Replace any deformed or weak retaining clips or springs. Apply grease to the sleeve of the input shaft bearing retainer, input shaft splines, and release lever contact surfaces. Install the release bearing and secure with retaining clips (5-speed models). Insert the fork from the top until the bearing and lever tabs lock in place. Slide the release lever cross shaft into the case, aligning the slot with the roll pin. Install the cross shaft plug and tighten to the torque (6-speed models). Reinstall the transaxle.
