Q:
How to Remove and Replace the Release Bearing on Subaru Forester? Posted by Customer
A:
Remove the release bearing retaining clips (or springs) from the bearing and remove the bearing from the input shaft, pry off the release lever from the ball stud and remove the lever and the rubber sealing boot from the transaxle, hold the bearing and rotate the outer portion while applying pressure, replace the release bearing retaining clips, or the release bearing/ball stud retainer spring, if they're deformed or weak, apply a light coat of grease to the sleeve of the input shaft bearing retainer and the input shaft splines and to the contact surfaces of the release lever, make sure the release lever is properly positioned on the ball stud, then push it firmly until the ball stud pops into place between the two sides of the retainer spring, install the release bearing and secure it with the retaining clips.

Q:
How Do You Remove and Install Clutch Disc,Clutch Fork,Pressure Plate and Release Bearing on Subaru Impreza? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the clutch, the transaxle must be removed from the vehicle and the engine supported. The clutch fork and release bearing can remain attached to the transaxle housing. To support the clutch disc during removal, install a clutch alignment tool through the clutch disc hub. The flywheel and pressure plate should be inspected for indexing marks and then the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts should be loosened until all spring pressure is relieved. The flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disc, release bearing, and pilot bearing should all be inspected for wear and damage and replaced as necessary. During installation, the flywheel and pressure plate machined surfaces should be cleaned and the clutch disc and pressure plate should be positioned against the flywheel with the clutch held in place with an alignment tool. The pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts should be tightened a little at a time in a criss-cross pattern and the release bearing should be lubricated and installed. Finally, the transaxle and all components should be reinstalled.
