Q:
How Do You Access and Inspect the Clutch Disc,Clutch Fork,Pressure Plate and Release Bearing on Subaru Forester? Posted by Customer
A:
Access to the clutch components is normally accomplished by removing the transaxle, leaving the engine in the vehicle. Inspect the flywheel and pressure plate for indexing marks, then turn each bolt a little at a time to loosen the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts. Inspect the lining on the clutch disc, the flywheel for cracks, heat checking, grooves and other obvious defects, the machined surfaces and the diaphragm spring fingers of the pressure plate, and the pilot bearing in the end of the crankshaft for excessive wear, scoring, dryness, roughness and any other obvious damage. Clean the flywheel and pressure plate machined surfaces with brake cleaner, lacquer thinner or acetone, position the clutch disc and pressure plate against the fly wheel with the clutch held in place with an alignment tool, center the disc, tighten the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts, lubricate the inner groove of the release bearing, install the clutch release bearing, and install the transaxle and all components removed previously.
