Subaru 13028AA250 Timing Belt

Start by positioning the engine at TDC for cylinder number 1 and disconnecting the battery. Then, remove the drive belts and any necessary components such as the air filter housing and air intake ducts. Remove the engine cooling fan(s) and shroud, and use a breaker bar and socket to remove the bolt from the crankshaft pulley. Remove the crankshaft pulley by hand or with the help of a screwdriver. For non-turbocharged engines, remove the outer belt covers and the timing belt guide. Turn the crankshaft and align the marks on the sprockets with the notches on the oil pump, inner timing belt cover, and cylinder head seam. Use paint to mark the alignment marks and the direction of belt rotation. Remove the idler pulley and sprocket, and then remove the timing belt. If the sprockets need to be replaced, remove the crankshaft pulley sprocket, timing belt tensioner, and camshaft sprockets. For turbocharged models, remove the outer belt covers and timing belt guide. Turn the crankshaft and align the marks on the sprockets with the notches on the rear timing belt cover and cylinder head. Use paint to mark the alignment marks and the direction of belt rotation. Install camshaft sprocket locking tools and remove the idler pulley and timing belt. If the sprockets need to be replaced, remove the crankshaft sprocket and timing belt tensioner, and then remove the camshaft sprockets.
