    Q:
How to replace the fuel filter on Subaru Forester? Posted by Customer
    A:
For Legacy and Outback models without turbochargers, between 2000 and 2003, and for Forester models without turbochargers between 2000 and 2004 that have an external fuel filter in the engine compartment. These models also have another type of filter which is a part of the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit assembly. External fuel filters located in the engine compartments are supposed to be changed at specified intervals. In tank filters on these particular vehicles do not get any scheduled maintenance however you should inspect them, clean them or replace as necessary whenever you are removing the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit. All other models lack an external fuel filter in their engine compartments, instead they rely on a filter that forms an integral part of the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit. On these models, mileage or thirty months whichever comes first is used as a standard period for maintenance. Always make sure that this work is done with a cold engine (after sitting at least three hours). Put rags or newspapers under the filter to catch any spilled gas.The petrol filter is located on the left-hand side of the engine compartment (the carburetor upon which it is fixed stands by the firewall near master cylinder brakes). To replace it undo clamps and push them down hoses beyond fittings on filter. With care twist off each hose from it; if they're worn-out, now may be best time to install new ones.Get rid of manifold by unhooking those clips holding it then plug out old one & fit back fresh before repositioning holsters plus tightening clamps firmly; just ensure pipe from tank points IN label exactly where marked above so rev up your car carefully while confirming whether there are visible leakages connected via pipes leading into different parts of this assembly such as "OUT" meaning exhaust system.

    Q:
How to change the fuel filter on Subaru Impreza with an external fuel filler in the engine compartment? Posted by Customer
    A:
This procedure applies to all pre-2004 non-turbocharged models with an external fuel filler in the engine compartment. These vehicles have another filter too, which is part of the fuel pump and fuel level sending unit assembly. The external fuel filler in the engine compartment should be replaced at regular intervals prescribed by the manufacturer. No specified maintenance interval for the in-tank fillers on these models but it is advisable to inspect, clean or replace them whenever the fuel pump/fuel level sending unit is removed. On other models, there is no external fuel filler in the engine compartment; instead they rely on filters that are part of their fuel pumps/level sender units. The specified maintenance interval for these models is also 30,000 miles or 30 months, whichever comes first. When changing the fuel filter, start with a cold-engine and place rags/newspapers under it to catch any spilt petrol. Brake master cylinder left hand side of engine compartment where you will find your fuel filter located . Loosen clamps and slide hoses past fittings on filter-Twist carefully pull hose off each end of filter. It's better to change worn out or damaged hoses with new ones If hoses are damaged or deteriorated they should be replaced with new ones Unclip filter bracket from vehicle frame then take out old one and put in a new one Reconnect hoses and reposition clamps tightening them securely Make sure that the fitting marked IN connects to this hose Start car up then check filter hose connections keenly for leaks.

Do I understand that 42072AA120 is the entire fuel pump assembly? It neither looks like the fuel pump assembly in the repair manual or your parts schematic. Also the identified fuel filter in the illustrated parts schematic on your site does not look like this part. Posted by Customer: 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek

    Q:
The 2013 Subaru BRZ is approaching 80k miles. I believe the fuel filter needs to be serviced soon. Is this the only part that needs to be replaced? I understand that Subaru's have the entire fuel pump assembly in the gas tank, not sure what the entire work would entail and which parts would need to be replaced. Posted by Customer: 2013 Subaru BRZ
    A:
42072AA120 is the filter for the sub level sensor. 42022CA000 is the main pump with the filter assembly (the filter is not sold separately).
