For installation remove the gasket from the cylinder heads and crankcase, clean the mating surfaces of the cylinder heads and crankcase with lacquer thinner or acetone the mating-surface must be free of oil. The cylinder head gasket should then be fitted over the locating dowels on the engine block and the cylinder head(s) fitted and loosely fastened with the bolts and washers which should have a thin layer of fresh engine oil on there threads. Tighten the bolts in the sequence and to the torque as indicated and follow the cylinder head bolt tightening procedure to the letter, or use a torque angle meter, better still paint the bolt head white so that one is able to achieve the right angle. Lastly, it is recommended to do the installation in the reverse order of the removal process.

Remove the cylinder heads and the old gaskets. Note: The block and cylinder heads are aluminum. Do not pry between the cylinder heads and the crankcase, as damage to the gasket sealing surfaces may result. Instead, use a soft-faced hammer to tap the cylinder heads and break the gasket seat. Cylinder head disassembly and inspection procedures should be performed by a qualified automotive machine shop.

Remove the camshafts.

Install the cylinder head gasket onto the cylinder head locating dowels on the engine block.
