First, take out the rear driveaxle nut. Before you start, block the front wheels, loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, jack up the car's back end on jackstands, and raise the back with a jack. Remove the rear wheel. If your car has drum brakes in back, detach the brake drum. To service rear disc brakes, detach the caliper, secure it out of your way with a wire, dispose of the caliper frame, and remove the brake rotor. Take out the bolts from the backing plate and hang up the backing plate in a safe position. Twist the driveaxle/hub nut loose, then push the driveaxle through the hub's many splines as you take out the wheel hub assembly together with the bearings. To get the driveaxle moving again, use a puller device to push it through the hub lubricated with pipe joint compound. While taking off the hub, be watchful not to overstretch the inner CV joint. Prepare a length of rope or wire to hold up the driveaxle's far end. Putting everything back together works like taking it apart, but make sure to tighten all fasteners to the right tightness (torque).

Due to the special tools and expertise required to press the hub and bearings from the rear knuckle, this job should be left to a professional mechanic. However, the knuckle and hub may be removed as an assembly and taken to an automotive machine shop or qualified repair facility for service. Loosen the rear drive axle/hub nut, rear wheel lug nuts, block the front wheels, raise the rear of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. On models with rear drum brakes, remove the brake drum and on models with rear disc brakes, remove the brake disc. Remove the hub mounting bolts from the back of the knuckle and suspend the backing plate safely aside. Push the drive axle through the hub splines as the hub and bearing assembly is removed. If the drive axle sticks in the hub, you'll have to push it out with a puller. Tighten the hub mounting bolts, brake caliper mounting bracket bolts, caliper mounting bolts, and the wheel speed sensor bolt. Tighten the drive axle/hub nut and the wheel lug nuts. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Remove the brake caliper and brake disc, as well as the wheel speed sensor from the steering knuckle.
