    Q:
How often should the Door Hinge, Door Latch Assembly, Door Lock, Hood Hinge, Hood Latch, and Trunk Lid Latch be lubricated on Subaru Legacy? Posted by Customer
    A:
On average after 3000 miles or three months, the doors, the hoods and the trunk should be lubricated with a few drops of light oil or lock lubricant on the hinges and latches assemblies. Also, the door latch strikers were recommended to be greased in order to reduce the amount of wear and to ensure free movement across the access surfaces. It is also recommendable to apply spray-on graphite lubricant on the door and trunk locks.

    Q:
How to remove and install the Door Handle, Door Lock Cylinder, and Door Latch Assembly on a Subaru Legacy? Posted by Customer
    A:
First, open the window and take out the door trim panel and, then, strip off the water shield. Subsequently, the actuating rods or cables, which are related with the inside door handle to the latch assembly, should be removed, and, moreover, there will be one or more screws to be erased at inside door handle. Release the handle after pulling it away from the door and removing it from the car; operating instructions involves the vice versa of installation. For the outside handle first, perform through the access hole to release the actuating rods from the outside handle as well as the Door Lock Cylinder, and after that, remove both retaining nuts and take off the handle from the door but reversing sequence for both removal and installation. Regarding the Door Lock Cylinder, first of all push the actuating rod off the lock body, and undo the mounting fastener, and then mounting bolt to extract the cylinder from handle to extract the cylinder from the car And to put it in reverse order. Lastly, remove the inside handle-to-latch actuating rods; through the access hole, remove the outside handle-to-latch rods together with the lock cylinder-to-latch rod. Unlock the three screws that hold the latch to the door, and then withdraw the latch assembly; however, the process of assembling is opposite to disassembling.

    Q:
How do you remove the exterior door handle, lock cylinder, and latch assembly together for the 2001 Subaru Outback? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disengage the inside handle-to-latch actuating rods from the latch. Working through the access hole on the inside of the door, disengage the outside handle-to-latch rods and the lock cylinder-to-latch rod from the latch assembly. Remove the three latch retaining screws and then remove the latch assembly from the door. Note: On 2007 and earlier models, there is a fourth bolt on the door panel side that must be removed. Installation is the reverse of removal.
