    Q:
How to remove and install the front and rear wiper motor and linkage on Subaru Legacy? Posted by Customer
    A:
If you need to change the front wiper motor and linkage, to begin with, it is required to unplug the connection of the cable with the battery's negative terminal. Then, with delicacy, unbolt the movable cover of the specific windshield wiper arm, and undo a nut that connects each wiper arm to the shaft of fixed metal. Locate the wiper arms to their shafts to allow for easy installation of the wiper arms after the repair; finally, pull out the wiper arms. Next, unbolt the cowl cover and unplug the electrical terminal of the wiper motor which can be released by a clip connected to the terminal. Remove the nut that holds the wiper motor and linkage assembly to the firewall and the two bolts that hold it to the left end of the assembly then take it out from the cowl. Disconnect the wiper motor from the linkage assembly by unlatching the linkage arm from the crank arm, removing the nut in the crank arm and noting which arrow on the crank arm faces the mounting bracket, then unscrewing the crank arm and the motor mounting bolts. For the rear wiper motor on wagon models, to begin with, you need to remove the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, the wiper arm cover should be flipped up and then you need to take out the nut that joins the wiper arm to the motor shaft. Locate the position of the wiper arm to the shaft as well as the wiper arm and be sure to note the position of sacers and cushion which must be repositioned when the rear wiper arm will be installed again. Then, unlock and take off the lift gate trim panel and then unplug the electrical connector of wiper motor. Last, unscrew the wiper motor mounting bolts and pull out the motor from the lift gate; the procedure of installation is quite the reverse to the procedure of removal.
