By prying the plastic tabs away from the filter and pulling out the filter.

To inspect the fuel system, remove the fuel filler cap and have an assistant turn the ignition key to ON while listening at the fuel filler opening. If no whirring sound is heard, check the fuel pump fuse and if it is blown, replace it and trace the fuel pump circuit for a short. After removing the fuel pump relay, check for battery voltage to the fuel pump relay connector. Unplug the fuel pump electrical connector at the fuel tank and check for battery voltage to the fuel pump with the ignition key ON. Relieve the fuel system pressure, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and tee-in the fuel pressure gauge between the fuel supply hose and the fuel filter inlet pipe or fuel rail inlet pipe. Start the engine and allow it to idle, compare the pressure reading with the engine running value listed in the Specifications. If the pressure readings are not correct, check for vacuum at the hose for the fuel pressure regulator, a restriction in the fuel filter or fuel line, or a pinched or clogged fuel return hose or pipe. After testing is complete, relieve the fuel pressure, remove the fuel pressure gauge and reconnect the fuel delivery line.
