Relieve the fuel system pressure by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. On 2000 through 2004 models, remove the air intake duct, disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator, disconnect the fuel hose from the fuel pressure regulator, remove the two fuel pressure regulator mounting screws and remove the old O-ring from the fuel pressure regulator. Install a new O-ring on the fuel pressure regulator, apply a light coat of clean engine oil to the new O-ring to protect it during installation, and then start the engine and check for leaks. On 2005 models, disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator, loosen the hose clamps and disconnect the fuel hoses from the fuel pressure regulator, and remove the bolt that attaches the fuel pressure regulator mounting bracket to the intake manifold. On 2004 and later ULEV models, remove the fuel pressure regulator protector, disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator, loosen the hose clamp screws, pull back the hose clamps and disconnect all fuel hoses from the fuel pipe assembly, unbolt the fuel pipe assembly from the tumble generator valve assembly, and remove the fuel pipe and fuel pressure regulator assembly. On 2004 turbocharged models, remove the engine cover, disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator, loosen the hose clamp screws, pull back the clamps and disconnect the hoses from the pressure regulator, and remove the fuel pressure regulator. On 2005 and later turbocharged models, remove the engine cover, disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator, loosen the hose clamp screws, pull back the clamps and disconnect the hoses from the pressure regulator, and remove the fuel pressure regulator. Installation is the reverse of removal.
