    Q:
Where is the Throttle Position Sensor Located and How to Replace it on a Subaru Forester? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Throttle Position sensor can be found on the throttle body. However, this process does not apply to electrically controlled throttle bodies used on ULEV models, non-turbocharged 2005 and later models and all turbocharged ones. First of all, remove the cable from the battery's negative post. After that disconnect the TP sensor electrical connector. To separate TP sensor from throttle body press release tab and detach the electrical connector, remove sensor mounting screws, and take out the sensor from the throttle body. Next, take off TP sensor mounting screws including removing TP sensor. Meanwhile installing a TP sensor ensure that tang on movable part of TP Sensor is located in correct side of pin on throttle plate shaft. Install them loosely before plugging in its electrical connector then backprobing signal return and ground wires at the connector for this particular sensor. ON when you turn over the engine slightly rotates TP Sensor until voltmeter reads between 0.45-0.55 V with closed position of throttle plate should be noted during installation of this component. When indicated voltage falls within specified range then tighten up all screws holding down your tps securely but do not overtighten them. On some models, wire colors may be different however they're not even close to what you are looking for if you back-probe between one of these wires with any other ones; only by back-probing two correct wires you will obtain reading within or very near to desired values as mentioned earlier.

    Q:
How to Install a Throttle Position Sensor on Subaru Outback? Posted by Customer
    A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and, if you're working on a turbocharged model, remove the intercooler. Depress the retaining tab and disconnect the electrical connector from the TP sensor, then remove the TP sensor mounting screws and the sensor. Install the TP sensor, making sure that the tang on the movable part of the sensor is positioned on the correct side of the pin on the throttle plate shaft. On non-turbo models, loosely install the TP sensor mounting screws, plug in the sensor electrical connector, then backprobe the signal return and ground wires of the sensor connector, turn the ignition to ON and rotate the TP sensor slightly until the voltmeter indicates between 045 and 0.55volt with the throttle plate closed. On turbo models, install the mounting screws and tighten them securely. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal.
