    Q:
How to remove and install the trailing arm on Subaru Forester? Posted by Customer
    A:
Lift the car's backside, support it on jackstands, and take off the rear wheel. Loosen its lug nuts first, then lock the front wheels in place. Pull off the brake cable from the trailing arm by disconnecting two parking brake cable brackets. First unbolt the nut and pivot bolt linking the leading part of the trailing arm to the support bracket, then detach the final nut and bolt joining the trailing arm to the wheel knuckle. Drain the trailing arm, replace worn-out bushings with fresh ones by having a pro auto mechanic press them out and install at his shop. To put it back, follow the removal steps backward and tighten the bolts once the rear knuckle reaches proper ride height using a jack on the ground, before tightening the trailing arm bolts to the correct torque specification.

    Q:
How to Install a Trailing Arm on Subaru Impreza? Posted by Customer
    A:
To install the trailing arm, loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, block the front wheels, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the rear wheel, detach the parking brake cable from the trailing arm, remove the nut and pivot bolt that attach the forward end of the trailing arm to the trailing arm bracket, remove the nut and bolt that attach the trailing arm to the rear knuckle, remove the trailing arm, inspect the trailing arm bushings and have them pressed out and new ones pressed in at an automotive machine shop if they're cracked, hardened or otherwise worn. Installation is the reverse of removal, after the bolts and nuts have been installed raise the rear knuckle with a floor jack to simulate normal ride height, then tighten the trailing arm bolts. The manufacturer recommends using new self-locking mounting nuts when installing the trailing arm.
