    Q:
How to replace the EGR valve in Subaru Forester? Posted by Customer
    A:
An Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system is available in these non-turbocharged Legacy and Outback models manufactured in 2003 and later, as well as non-turbocharged Forester models made in 2004 and onwards. The EGR system decreases nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission that is a poisonous substance, which can lead to health issues. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal to change/replace an EGR valve. Remove the electrical connector from the EGR valve and unbolt the EGR mounting bolts to disconnect it from intake manifold. Throw away old gasket of EGR valve and clean off any exhaust residues on mating surfaces. Be careful not to immerse EGR valve into solvents or degreasers since it may puncture the diaphragm inside. To remove excessive carbon deposits, use wire wheel in cleaning out passage for EGR gas flow. Finally, install a new gasket on the new EGR valve and tighten mounting bolts to specified torque values.

    Q:
How to Replace an EGR Valve on Subaru Impreza? Posted by Customer
    A:
The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) produced by your vehicle's engine by reintroducing exhaust gases into the intake manifold, dropping combustion chamber temperatures. To replace the EGR valve, disconnect the negative battery terminal and the EGR valve's electrical connector. Clean any exhaust deposits and if the EGR passage is clogged, clean it with a wire wheel.

How does the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system reduce NOx for the 2007 Subaru Outback? Posted by Customer
    A:
It introduces a controlled amount of spent exhaust gases into the intake manifold, which lowers combustion chamber temperatures and reduces the creation of NOx.
