The Evaporative Emissions Control (EVAP) system in vehicles absorbs fuel vapors and releases them into the intake manifold during engine operation. It includes components like the fuel tank filler neck cap, fuel cut valve, EVAP canister, and various sensors and valves. For instance, the purge control solenoid valve, located under the intake manifold on Non-STI models and on a bracket in front of the intake manifold for STI models, is replaced by disconnecting the negative battery terminal, removing electrical connectors and hoses, and then reinstalling in reverse. The EVAP canister, situated underneath the vehicle or inside the trunk depending on the model year, is replaced by disconnecting hoses and electrical connectors, and then mounting the new canister. The drain filter and drain valve, integral to the canister in later models, are replaced by similar disconnection and reconnection processes. The fuel tank pressure sensor, atop the fuel tank, requires tank removal for replacement. The pressure control solenoid valve, located either above the rear axle differential or below the EVAP canister, is replaced by disconnecting its electrical connector and hoses. The vent valve, used in older models and located on top of the fuel tank, involves tank removal and hose disconnections for replacement. The shut valve, near the top of the fuel filler neck pipe, requires removal of the fuel filler neck assembly for replacement. Each component requires careful disconnection of hoses and electrical connectors, with installation being the reverse process.
