To remove the trans axle, first detach it from the vehicle. If the vehicle has a manual trans axle, also take out the clutch disc and pressure plate. Next, remove the attaching bolts to separate the flywheel/drive plate from the crankshaft. For installation, apply thread locking compound to the bolt threads. On automatic trans axle models, align the small hole in the drive plate with the mark on the back plate, hold the flywheel/drive plate in position, and install the bolts. The flywheel/drive plate can only be installed in one position due to unevenly spaced bolt holes; if they do not align, rotate the flywheel/drive plate until they do. Use an appropriate tool to hold the flywheel/drive plate in place while tightening the bolts in a crisscross pattern to the specified torque. If equipped, install the clutch disc and clutch cover assembly. Finally, reinstall the trans axle.
