Loosen the rear driveaxle nut. First loosen the rear wheel lug nuts before blocking the front wheels with jackstands to position the vehicle on boost and remove the rear wheel. Remove the rear wheel. The parking brake cable requires loosening adjustment to achieve relaxed cable tension. During drum brake vehicle maintenance you should take out the brake shoe assembly together with the wheel cylinder. A model with rear disc brakes requires their brake disc and parking brake assembly to be eliminated before further work can begin. Turn off the parking brake cable connection to the supporting plate. Take away the rear wheel speed sensor when it exists on the vehicle. Take off the
Trailing Arm from the rear Steering Knuckle assembly. Remove the
Control Arms from their connection with the rear Steering Knuckle. Unfasten the bolts and nuts which link the strut to the Steering Knuckle. Use a driveaxle nut remover to detach the Steering Knuckle from the CV joint installation on its outer side. When the hub stays attached to CV joint splines you can push the stub shaft through the hub with a two-jaw puller. The inner CV joint should be protected against excessive stretching. A qualified facility can replace wheel bearings during this time when the Steering Knuckle is detached from the vehicle. The replacement of boot covers should occur immediately if any elements of the CV joints show signs of damage. Unfasten the brake backing plate fasteners first and proceed to remove the backing plate. The installation process requires the following sequence: first raise the rear Steering Knuckle with a floor jack until it reaches normal ride height then tighten all link, support and trailing arm fasteners to the correct torques followed by tightening brake component fasteners to their respective torques and driving axle hub nut to specified torque and concluding with wheel lug nut tightening to specified torques and on vehicles with drum brakes the bleeding of brake system must be completed before readjusting the parking brake cable.
