Subaru Impreza Clutch Fork

The Subaru Impreza Clutch Fork serves to convert your foot's push into a useful lever action. This action does so by working on the release bearing, which in turn works on the pressure plate. As a result, the engine and gearbox are momentarily separated and the shifts stay clean and quick. The bell housing has a forged steel lever that connects a hydraulic slave cylinder or a cable directly to the release bearing. The early versions of the Impreza married the Clutch Fork to a simple cable system, allowing a wire to pull the lever every time the pedal dropped. However, many later Subaru transmissions switched to hydraulic actuation where fluid pressure from the master cylinder pushes against the slave rod on the Clutch Fork. This reduced effort and resulted in automatic self-adjustment. The two layouts maintain short pedal travel, but one gives lower upkeep since cables stretch while the other risks a leak or air pocket in the hydraulic circuit. Whether a style, a worn pivot, or a cracked Clutch Fork can imitate bad bearings, making noise, vibration, and stiff shifts. The engineers from Subaru also have concentric slave cylinders in some versions where the slave and bearing are one unit, so no separate Clutch Fork is required. This may save some parts but makes replacement more expensive. Keeping the Impreza pedal free of riding habits limits strain on the lever and prolongs clutch life.

Subaru Impreza Clutch Fork Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q:
How to Remove and Install Clutch Disc,Clutch Fork,Pressure Plate and Release Bearing on Subaru Impreza?
    Posted by Nick F.
    A:
To remove the clutch, the transaxle must be detached and the engine supported. Use a clutch alignment tool to support the clutch disc during removal. Inspect the flywheel and pressure plate for indexing marks and loosen the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts. During installation, clean the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces, position the clutch disc and pressure plate against the flywheel, and secure with an alignment tool. Tighten the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts in a crisscross pattern, lubricate, and install the release bearing. Finally, reinstall the transaxle and all components.
