Subaru Legacy Exhaust Manifold

The Subaru Legacy Exhaust Manifold collects hot exhaust gases originating from the cylinder head and channels them to a single outlet which feeds the rest of the exhaust system. The joined flow then goes through the catalytic converter, muffler, and tailpipe, enabling the Subaru Legacy sedan or wagon to discharge combustion by-products while keeping harmful fumes away from occupants. Attached to the head of the cylinder and the exhaust pipe with the use of bolts or studs and gaskets for sealing, the Exhaust Manifold is subject to a lot of heat but is among the durable components in the system. The Exhaust Manifold assemblies in many Subaru Legacy vehicles are made out of strong and heat-resistant cast iron, although some versions utilize welded steel or stainless steel tubing attached to a mounting flange. Certain applications use heat shields to prevent damage to nearby components, feature a port for the installation of an oxygen sensor, or integrate the catalytic converter directly into the Exhaust Manifold to maximize catalyst warm-up. This Exhaust Manifold limits backpressure, reducing intake reversion and ensuring the engine maintains a steady stream of airflow in Subaru Legacy.

Subaru Legacy Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q:
How to the removal and installation of the exhaust manifold on Subaru Legacy?
    Posted by Concetta S.
    A:
The first step in order to approach the exhaust manifold requires a user to disconnect the cable that is connected to the negative terminal followed by lifting the car and placing it over some jack stands. Then, unlock the engine splash shield and cut off the front and rear oxygen sensor connectors. For non-turbocharging remove the heat shields of the exhaust pipes and exhaust manifold: The bolts and studs must be coated with penetrating lubricant to avoid thread stripping. It is necessary to unscrew bolts on the exhaust manifold connector at the center exhaust pipe, and then it is possible to unscrew nuts on the exhaust manifold on both Cylinder Heads and to take off the manifold. Turbocharged models are similar; first, remove the heat shields, then undo the bolts in the turbocharger joint pipe, and the nuts in the exhaust manifold and a center exhaust pipe if needed. For installation, it is good that the mating surfaces on the cylinder heads, manifold, and exhaust pipe are cleaned with a scraper and solvent and checked that the surfaces are flat and non-damaged. Replace manifold gaskets, fit the manifold on the cylinder head and through bolts and torque to harmonize with recommended torque figure produced by the manufacturer. Screw the coupling nut with the center pipe or the turbocharger joint pipe on the manifold and make equal and tight torque. As a final step, reverse all the steps that were done during removal and join the battery, finally, start the engine and ensure that it has no exhaust leak.
