Remove the
Steering Wheel. Mark the relationship of the universal joint to the steering shaft and then remove the pinch bolt that holds the steering shaft to the U-joint, ensuring to mark both before removal. Remove the steering column covers and the lower instrument trim panel. Remove the plate mounted in front of the steering column by taking out the plate mounting fasteners. Disconnect all electrical connectors, remove any harnesses and electrical components attached to the steering column that would interfere with removal. Remove the steering column mounting bolts and carefully guide the steering column out from the instrument panel, securing the steering shaft to prevent it from turning, as turning it will require re-centering the clockspring. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to align the mark on the U-joint with the mark on the steering shaft and tighten the steering column mounting bolts and the U-joint pinch bolt to the specified torque values. If the steering shaft was turned during removal, re-center the clockspring.
