Before adjusting the parking brake, ensure the brake hydraulic system is air-free and rear brakes are properly adjusted. Apply the parking brake lever three to five times and count the clicks until full engagement. The correct number is seven to eight clicks. If more or less, the cable is either stretched or too tight. Remove the center console cover, adjust the locknut, and turn the adjuster nut to tighten or loosen the cable. Repeat if necessary. After adjustment, tighten the locknut against the adjuster nut. To remove the parking brake, loosen the cable lock nut and adjuster nut, raise the rear of the vehicle, remove the rear wheels, remove the front fuel tank covers (STI models only), remove all clamps and clips attaching the cables, disengage the cable from the equalizer and rear brake assembly, and detach the cable from the brake backing plate. Install in reverse order, ensuring cables are not kinked and nothing interferes with them. Adjust the cables after installation.
