    Q:
How to remove and install the Camshaft Position Sensor on a Subaru Forester? Posted by Customer
    A:
NON-TURBOCHARGED MODELS The CMP sensor is situated at the left cylinder head, between the posterior side of the timing belt cover and the front part of the valve cover mounted on a bracket bolted to the head. Remove/disconnect the negative battery cable. Disconnect/remove electrical connector from CMP sensor. Tab must be depressed and connector disconnected in order to remove CMP sensor as well as by unscrewing support bolts before pulling off connector so that sensor/support assembly can be removed. Sensor can then be pulled off support by removal of mounting bolt. Remove/unscrew the CMP sensor support mounting bolts as well as take out both support and CMP sensors together in one piece. You cannot take out CMP sensor from this bracket without removing it because there isn't enough room between its bolt and valve cover's bottom to enable removal of a bolt for holding it in place. Take out/unbolt that CMP sensor from its support. It will reverse as earlier stated when installed back again after being uninstalled earlier on TURBOCHARGED MODELS Note: Turbocharged models have dual sensors of this type (CMP). These are located at outer rear corner of each head, at back end of cylinder heads. Remove engine cover on Legacy and Outback models from year 2005 onwards, Forester models from year 2006 onwards and later versions thereof.Unplug/negate negative power cable for batter source or terminal in this case again to station itself right here within this sentence at least once more! Intercooler module assembly should be removed if left-hand side CMP needs replacement. The right hand fore finger could help you locate/place your digit onto/can find its way to where you will get access to that CMP sensor after moving away electrical connections involving wires (which) go through pipes than could be found nearby. Disengage cable from CMP sensor. In order to get rid of its transistor or even rather exit those capable of being moved the bolt that is used to attach this sensor directly into the cylinder head would have to be removed along with disconnecting an electric connector. CMP sensor is removed after undoing its mounting screw/bolt. Again, installation will be done in a way opposite to removal process as indicated above.
