The Subaru Impreza Camshaft regulates the opening and closing of intake and exhaust valves so the engine can breathe at the right moments for smoother power. The cam in a block-mounted single cam initially worked through lifters, pushrods, and rocker arms. Many later models had overhead layouts where the Camshaft rests in the cylinder head. Moreover, this change saved weight and optimized timing accuracy in modern Subaru heads.
