For maintenance of rear brakes, start by taking off wheel lug nuts. Afterwards, lift the back part of the car and prop it up by means of jack stands while blocking forward wheels. Disengage handbrake and remove the rear wheels. Take off the brake drums; in case they are difficult to remove use a brake adjuster tool through an access hole to retract shoes. Use brake system cleaner but don't blow air into it. Examine brake drums for wear, scoring or out-of-round conditions; these can be resurfaced at a machine shop if required. Work on one drum brake assembly at a time by removing hold down cups; springs and lower shoe return spring release leading and trailing shoes plus adjuster mechanism from backing plate. Disconnect
Parking Brake Cable followed by cleaning and lubricating backing plate with grease application in different parts before reassembling them again. Check
Wheel Cylinder's condition and replace if necessary. Finally, set the brakes right using the adjuster while fitting back its drum and wheels including tightening their lug nuts, lower your vehicle thus testing whether brakes are working properly or not before you start driving.
