Fuel vapor from the charcoal canister flows into the engine through the Subaru Legacy Canister Purge Valve. This prevents the vapors from escaping, which burns them instead. The Canister Purge Valve is installed between the canister and intake manifold of a car. The valve stays shut when the vehicle is parked and traps fumes in the canister. The valve opens when the engine is running. Hence, an internal vacuum draws air through the charcoal, transporting vapors stored in the canister into the combustion chambers.
