Subaru Legacy Trunk Lid Latch

The Trunk Lid Latch of your Subaru Legacy is responsible for keeping the rear compartment locked, which prevents thieves from stealing your gear and protects gear against the harsh winds experienced at highway speeds. Made primarily of stainless steel, this Trunk Lid Latch holds the lid securely while the interior release button or key action tells it to let go. The Trunk Lid Latch has to be designed rigidly to prevent anything inside the trunk, like a fishing pole, tool, or even that hidden spare tire, from being projected out onto the roadway in case of any latch malfunction. Over generations of the Legacy, the robust stainless construction and press-to-release design have not changed, indicating that the Trunk Lid Latch concept was so solid that major revisions were not necessary. Subaru model drivers like a functioning Trunk Lid Latch as that is also a theft deterrent since a locked panel makes it harder to steal the pricey equipment inside. Although shoppers may note trim updates or new convenience electronics in each Subaru, the familiar latch inside the Legacy trunk gives owners quick, confident one-press access when it is time to load up and roll.

Our website stands as the go-to online destination for OEM Subaru Legacy Trunk Lid Latch. Subaru Legacy Trunk Lid Latch Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q:
How to remove and install the Trunk Lid Latch and Trunk Lock Cylinder for a Subaru Legacy?
    Posted by Peter L.
    A:
To remove the latch in 2004 and earlier models, one has to first open the trunk then remove other trim panels around the latch after which he draws a line around the latch assembly to help in re-installation of the components. Unlock the lock cylinder by rotating a rod that is fasten to it then, remove the two nuts or bolts holding the latch and pull it out. Regarding installation, you should place the latch in the position of the line you made earlier. To do for vehicles produced starting from 2005, turn the vehicle on and open the trunk, pull the trim panels, unscrew the arresting mechanism two clips, disconnect the plastic connector and the cable from component, back of the latch, and then posted the latch back into position while reconnecting the clips. For 2004 and earlier models, to replace the trunk lock cylinder, one would have to first open the trunk, remove all the necessary trim panels, disconnect the latch to lock cylinder rod, followed by the removal of the lock cylinder retaining clip using a pair of pliers and finally pulling the lock cylinder out of the trunk lid from the exterior. For models 2005 and later: Open the trunk, then pull out the trim panels, and take out the trunk lid release handle; then to disconnect the connectors of the trunk opener cable, and to erase two fasteners to take out the lock assembly. Removal and installation for both models are quite the opposite of one another.
