How to replace the Rack and Pinion Boot and tie-rod end on a Subaru Legacy?

Remove the front wheel by unscrewing the front wheel lug nuts, lifting the car and placing it on jackstands. Next, take off the tie-rod end, or also known as the jam nut and tightening nut. Next, remove rack and pinion boot clamps and pull off the boot by unclipping the small clamp from it and large wire from the gear in the Rack and Pinion system. Before fitting the new boot, it is advisable to cover the thread end of the tie rod with the separate layer of tape so it does not harm the small end of the new boot. Move the new boot into the proper position and locate it to the groove on the rack and pinion before fitting new clamps. Take off the tape from the tie-rod and then fit the tie-rod end. After that, attach the wheel and lug nuts, lift the car and mechanically tighten the lug nuts to the standard recommended torque. One should have the alignment checked to have it corrected if the problem is persistent.
