How to Remove the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers on a Subaru Outback?

Disconnect the battery negative terminal, ensure the automatic transmission shift lever is in neutral, raise the vehicle onto the jack stands, and detach the shift cable from the transaxle. Remove the center console and shift the automatic transmission shift lever grip. Lift the base over the automatic transmission shift lever by depressing tabs on each side. Unplug connectors from the shift-lock solenoid and park the position switch. Remove automatic transmission shift lever base bolts and assembly. Reverse the process for installation.
