How to Remove the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers on a Subaru Legacy?

Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, make sure the shift lever is in the NEUTRAL position, raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands, disconnect the shift cable from the shift lever on the transaxle, lower the vehicle and remove the center console, remove the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers grip, unplug the electrical connectors for the shift-lock solenoid and the park position switch, remove the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers base mounting bolts and remove the Automatic Transmission Shift Levers assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal and adjust the shift cable.
